Raising Hearts for Equality

Updated: Jun 12, 2020

How do we raise our Children and Young People to be kind & caring with a Heart for Equality?

In this current day with the Black Lives Matter movement it's really important to reflect on our own behaviours and actions, being intentional to be models that uplift equality not only outside our homes but inside as well. May I add I'm not just referring to racism but to all, that we choose not to see the colour of skin or difference in culture; nor the difference in sexuality, nor difference in gender. Just choose to not get stuck in stereotypes.

I know in my family, when I was growing up there was a lot of strong stereotypes spoken of. These stereotypes cause us to think one is better than another, one has more power than another, one deserves more rights than another and so on.

Before I became aware of these ingrained mindsets, I know I made many a judgement in front of my children, that today, I feel ashamed off.

It's not until we become aware of these ingrained stereotypes that we can be intentional with our own behaviour, thoughts, actions and speech.

It's always powerful to reflect upon our own behaviour before casting a stone at another. When I'm intentional to do this, I can be a better role model for my children and for our society.
